Roof Refurbishment at Milton Abbey School, Blandford Forum
The team at Crocker Cladding were called to Milton Abbey School to help refresh the roof of one of their many on-site buildings.
Milton Abbey School, situated in Blandford Forum, Dorset, is an independent school for both day and boarding pupils. Founded in 1954, the school offers students a combination of classroom-based and vocational-centred education.
To support their vocational learning programme, the school keeps a variety of animals on their grounds, including chickens and sheep. As a result, there are several outbuildings to maintain, alongside the main school building.
Our team were approached by Milton Abbey School to replace the roof of one of these buildings and help create a more durable, weatherproof structure.
The Project Outline
The outbuilding’s existing roof was made from corrugated metal sheets that were starting to show signs of ageing. Over time, corrugated metal roofing tends to rust and become discoloured, affecting both its structural and aesthetic properties – this was the case at Milton Abbey.
The metal roof also featured several seams, due to the nature of the corrugated style, which had become less watertight over the years.
Our team at Crocker Cladding were contacted because of our expertise and reputation for renovating buildings, giving them a new lease of life and better insulation.
What We Did
This was a multi-stage project that Crocker Cladding was able to complete efficiently in a two-day window.
First, our team needed to remove and dispose of the outdated corrugated metal sheeting that formed the existing roof. A scaffolding platform was used to easily access the roof and this allowed us to work freely to complete the job.
After assessing the demands of the building, Crocker Cladding selected JI roof PIR panels for the project. These 150mm, insulated composite panels were selected for a variety of reasons; they are ideal for pitched roofs, offer excellent thermal resistance and provide good insulation.
This makes them a great choice for exposed, agricultural buildings, and they offer a great combination of durability and value.
We also supplied and fitted new ridge flashings to the apex roof, creating a clean, protected finish that would aid durability and insulation.
The End Result
Upon completion of the project, our client was very happy with the results – the new roof will be long lasting, insulative and protective whilst also boosting the aesthetic appearance of the building.
